Public sector rent is going up by 10%.
The Department of Social Care has announced it's putting housing costs up from the first of April next year.
The increase is double the current rate of inflation.
The Department says it's necessary due to the rising cost to the taxpayer, estimated to be around £7million this year.
The rise will be an average of £7 a week for a typical three bedroom house, whilst sheltered housing will be around £2.40 extra.
Despite the rise, rents will remain less than 40% of the cost of private rentals, around half the cost of public housing in the UK, and a third compared with the Channel Islands.
