The Chairman of the Island's Overseas Aid Committee says it gives a lower percentage of Gross National Product than most Europeans countries.

Phil Gawne says the Isle of Man Government is still behind many of its neighbours when it comes to aid donations.

Despite this, figures released in a House of Keys written answer show that the money is helping more people.

Aid given in the 2008 to 2009 financial year reached almost 350,000 people.

This jumped to over 900,000 the following year, 1.2 million last year and almost 1.8 million so far this year.

The details were released following a question from Onchan MHK Zac Hall
