Fishermen are agreeing to only fish Manx queenies for three days a week to preserve stocks.
All members of the Queenie Management Board have agreed to the restrictions, and are writing to other fishing vessels to ask that they do the same.
The board says current fishing levels in the Irish Sea are unsustainable, and not in the interest of the consumer, fisherman or processor.
The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is to contact neighbouring nations to ask them to restrict the amount of time spent fishing for queenie scallops as well.
