The Education Minister says a land swap at Michael Primary School will protect the future of the school.
Eddie Teare believes Heritage Homes would have been able to build up to the school's boundary, preventing further development.
It was confirmed yesterday that the school field at Douglas Road Corner would be swapped for a two acre section of land adjacent to the school.
The new land will be used to create a new sports pitch and hard play area.
There'll also be land available for a future extension to the school.
Heritage Homes will be submitting a planning application to use the current school field as an entrance to its new housing development within the next three months.
