The Department of Infrastructure is looking at making changes to speed limits on the main Douglas to Peel route.
A review has been carried out on the A1 where there are a mixture of residential zones and sections which pass through less built up areas.
Speed data and accident history have been looked at and there've been talks with police and local commissioners.
The proposals include a reduction of the length of 30mph zones, which extend unnecessarily beyond built up areas, and 40 mph buffer zones on the approach to residential sections.
Signage and road markings would be changed to make them clearer and more consistent.
