Solway Harvester to stay where it is for now

Tue, 21 Jun 2011

It's still not known when the Solway Harvester will be moved from Douglas Harbour.

The families of the seven men who died when the scallop dredger sank are still involved in civil action against the former owner in Scotland.

In Tynwald today, Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne confirmed his department is still waiting for legal matters to conclude before the Solway Harvester can be disposed of.

Phil Gawne says it would be unfair to put pressure on the families.

The boat will be eventually be scrapped at Ramsey Shipyard.

Mr Gawne says it would it be costly to move it from public view.

He says they've also looked into taking it to the UK or Ireland.[Play media file below]
