PokerStars Senior Tennis Championships this weekend

Sat, 18 Jun 2011

The Semi finals and the finals of the PokerStars Senior Tennis Championships take place this weekend at Albany Tennis Club.

The 2nd of the Men's semi-finals was played yesterday evening when defending champion Marc Chinn took on the 2009 Champion Jamie Teare in what was a very competitive semi final with a lot of long rallies as both players strove to get an advantage.

It was Jamie that broke serve first but Marc broke back to level the match at 4-4 in the first set but then failed to hold serve at 4-5 giving Jamie the first set 6-4.

The 2nd set was equally competitive with Marc getting off to a good start breaking Jamie early and eventually taking the second set 6-2 to set up a thrilling 3rd set.

The high standard was maintained throughout the 3rd set with Jamie eventually getting the break to win the match 6-3 in the third.

Jamie will take on young star Billy Harris in the final at 4pm on Saturday who beat Jack Hedges in the other semi-final earlier in the week.

At 12:00 on Saturday in the first of the ladies semi-finals, Karen Faragher, who has won the title 15 times, plays Lucy Kerr who had her first win over Karen last year.

At 2pm Laura Feely, defending Champion plays young Katie Harris who has reached the semi-final in her first year in the senior competition after beating Claire Borland in the quarter final.

The final of the Ladies Singles will be played at 2pm on Sunday followed by a mixed doubles and the presentations.

Also playing at Albany over the weekend there is a Junior Tennis competition and mini tennis at 12:00. So if you are thinking of taking up tennis or just want to watch just drop in to Albany tennis club in Ballaughton Meadows which is first right off the Castletown Road after you go through the traffic lights where you turn left to the NSC.
