The first major part of the regeneration project for Douglas is due to start next month.
The joint project between the government and local council will begin with a £75,000 facelift for Upper Nelson Street.
The road runs between Shaw's Brow Car Park and Prospect Hill.
The next phase will be the bottom part of Nelson Street, followed by Duke Street and Strand Street next year.
The work includes new paving, lighting and street furntiture.
Chairman of the Regeneration Committee David Cretney explains why Nelson Street was chosen first.[Play media file below]
