Heavy rain, a bomb scare, oil spill - the story of the 2011 North West 200
International Road Races!
Due to the prevailing conditions, the organisers made the decision to run the
Supersport race first in preference to the Superbikes.
The five-lap race saw Gary Johnson take an early lead from pole sitter
Alastair Seeley, but it soon became a two-man duel between Seeley and
Cameron Donald who was attempting to become the first Australian to win at
the North West.
A brilliant last lap duel ended with Alastair Seeley beating Cameron Donald by
0.824 of a second with Bruce Anstey finishing third. Michael Dunlop was
fourth, Gary Johnson fifth and William Dunlop sixth.
Manxman Conor Cummins, winner of the Duke Rankings title in 2007 took a
very creditable 10th place on his return to racing ‘between the hedges’.
There are no changes in the top eight in the 2011 Duke Road Race Rankings
with current champion Ryan Farquhar topping the listings from Willam and
Michael Dunlop.
Cameron Donald climbs 16 places into ninth, whilst Guy Martin moves into
16th, up five positions.
Race winner Alastair Seeley making his first appearance on the roads this
season slots into 25th place.
