Less money will be spent on major road improvement schemes and more cash is going to fixing road surfaces.
The Department of Infrastructure plans to spend £2.7m on rebuilding and resurfacing carriageways.
The damage caused by cold weather has highlighted that many roads are fragile and that more is needed than a bit of patching up work.
A chunk of the money for the maintenance is coming from the road improvement budget.
Minister Phil Gawne says they'll be shifting their focus in future.[Play media file below]
