The Infrastructure Minister says some industries on the Island have insufficient health and safety rules.
Phil Gawne says some areas have no legislation protecting workers.
Mr Gawne revealed in Tynwald that some companies adopt UK laws as good practice, but that this isn't a legal requirement.
Proposals to tighten up health and safety legislation on the Island are currently out to public consultation.
