Tourism Minister David Cretney is being accused of showing a lack of leadership after five people lost their jobs within his department.
A row has now broken out after the workers from the heritage railways were made redundant yesterday.
The Employees side of the Whitley Council believe the posts could have been saved by making changes like cutting back on overtime and by not replacing staff who are due to retire.
The employment body says Mr Cretney has shown a total lack of responsibility to the people who've lost their jobs.
It also accuses the Minister of sanctioning the removal of the employees right to appeal and their right to be retrained.
However Mr Cretney says they will have seven days to appeal.
