The Education Minister says no roads will be built across QE2's playing field whilst he remains in charge of the Department.
A local action group believes a planning application by a developer could pave the way for a road being built over the land in future.
However, Eddie Teare says his department hasn't been approached by Heritage Homes about it.
A Facebook campaign for the field to be spared has received strong support from the public.
Mr Teare echoes the sentiment behind the page, but says people don't need to be worried.
He says it's important that sports facilities remain available to the Island's young people. [Play audio file below]
