Specialist off-road firefighting vehicles were needed to bring a large gorse fire in Peel under control.
Fire crews believe the 50m x 60m area of thick gorse on Patrick Road was set alight deliberately yesterday evening.
The recent warm weather meant the ground was extremely dry, allowing the fire to spread quickly.
Officers spent around 2.5 hours at the scene.
The fire was some distance away from the road, making it difficult for firefighters to tackle.
Such fires have also been causing problems in the UK.
The police have been informed of the blaze.
