Charities support breast care plans

The Department of Health is welcoming the support of local cancer charities for appointing a surgeon with a special interest in breast care.

 

The Department currently employs a locum focusing just on breast care.

 

An advert for a consultant surgeon to lead breast care was recently placed.

 

The new appointment would increase cover for the on-call surgery rota at Noble's.

 

Douglas East MHK Brenda Cannell has been a critic of the plans, saying it would downgrade the level of care given to breast cancer patients on the Island.

 

However, the Isle of Man Council of Cancer Charities, Breakthrough Breast CAncer Isle of Man and Isle of Man Breast Care are all supported the plans.
