The Department of Infrastructure is saying sorry for an accident that left a Steam Packet worker injured and the department with a £16,000 fine.
In August last year, a Ropeman for the Steam Packet was working with the mooring ropes for the fast craft Manannan at the Edward Pier, when the metal grating he was standing on collapsed.
His leg went through the grill and he was left with serious lacerations.
The man needed a stay in hospital but was able to return to work once he had recovered.
The Department of Infrastucture was taken to court over the matter and was fined £16,000 after pleading guilty to health and safety breaches.
The DOI says the platform that collapsed was inspected 5 months before the accident and at the time no deficiencies were found.
Improvements and repairs have been carried out since.
The Department says it regrets the accident happened and apologises to the injured man.
