A new scheme is being introduced to ensure fish sold in the Island can be traced to its source.
The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture wants all buyers and sellers of fish to sign up.
Registration is voluntary, but is expected to become compulsory later this year.
The Department says registration would protect the Island's fishermen from hobby fishers selling their catch cheaply.
Such rules have been in place in the UK since 2005.
DEFA will be contacting businesses it believes are affected by the scheme
