The scheme which sees the kerbside collection of recyclable household waste in Onchan, Douglas and Braddan is to be extended.
It was due to end this September, but will now run until March 2012.
Originally, the scheme was to be government funded for three years, but an agreement between Braddan and Onchan Commissioners means it can now run for longer.
It will cost £85,000.
During the extension it will be investigated whether the scheme can be operated in future and financed in a way that represents value for money for rate payers.
