The Island is turning to Chile and Egypt for salt supplies, after salt mines throughout Europe placed restrictions on orders.
The Island's salt supplies have been reduced to 50% of its full storage capacity.
Two boat loads of salt have already been brought in in December, with another order due mid January.
The Department of Infrastructure has been looking thoughout Europe and North Africa for salt supplies.
On average 1700 tonnes of salt are used on the Island each winter. So far this year over 5500 tonnes has been used
