The Health Minister says he hopes a specialist surgeon working with breast cancer patients will be able to stay at Noble's Hospital.
David Anderson explained that the woman is currently on a fixed term contract, but that a permanent post could be advertised shortly, and he hopes the current surgeon will apply.
East Douglas MHK Brenda Cannell asked Mr Anderson about breast cancer rates on the Island in the House of Keys this week.
In the last two years there have been 60 to 70 cases of breast cancer diagnosed on the Island each year.
However there were 47 cases in the first six months of this year.
Mr Anderson says this doesn't necessarily mean breast cancer is on the rise [play clip]
