A gorse fire on Bradda Head last night was caused by flares from Port Erin lifeboat crew.
The lifeboat was called out at around six thirty yesterday evening following reports that someone had been heard in pain at the foot of Bradda Head.
During the search, flares were sent up. One failed to burn out as it landed, and it set alight an area of gorse on Bradda Head.
It's believed the noises heard could have been seals, as nobody was found in the search.
It's the first time such an incident has happened to Lifeboat Operation Manager Geof Staples
