The first witnesses have given evidence in the Demesne Road murder trial.
Lydia and Adrian Bandola lived next door to the property on Bucks Road where a sofa and mattress were set alight in the rear yard.
Speaking through a translater, they told the court they returned home to see smoke coming from the yard.
They put the fire out with the help of the residents at the property.
35 year old Simon Paul Leece is charged with the murder of Terry Losh in March last year, and seven arson charges.
Leece denies the charges.
This afternoon the court will hear evidence on the fire at Peveril Street.
