The next Lieutenant Governor of the Island will be chosen by a local panel.
Chief Minister Tony Brown, President of Tynwald Noel Cringle and First Deemster Mike Kerruish will choose a suitable person for the role.
The change comes following a meeting between representatives from the Island and the UK's Ministry of Justice, which is responsible for the Crown Dependencies.
The current Governor, Sir Paul Haddacks, had his term extended by six months, as the selection process had been due to take place during the UK's General Election.
An advert for the position will appear in the UK papers this weekend.
