Trade and Industry Minister David Cretney MHK

The Trade and Industry Minister says he regrets that he won't be able to get higher recognition for Trade Unions.

David Cretney - who has built on the Employment Act in his time at the DTI - wants legislation to provide for statutory recognition of Trade Unions.

Mr Cretney says he was apprehensive when he was initially given the Trade and Industry role, having become very comfortable as Tourism Minister.

It was announced yesterday that he will become the Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure from April.

Mr Cretney describes himself as a strong supporter of the new Department of Economic Development, but accepts that another Minister has been placed in charge of it.

He thanks all the staff in his current Department for their support in his time working with them.
