Bus and cycle lane to be removed next week

Wed, 02 Sep 2020

A bus and cycle lane on a Douglas road which attracted criticism is to be removed next week, it's been confirmed.

The Department of Infrastructure has announced the measures on Glencrutchery Road are to be lifted, along with a number of other changes involved in the Douglas promeande regeneration scheme.

Implemented in June, the bus and cycle was met with a backlash from the public, with a petition calling for its removal gaining more than 3,000 signatures.

Infrastructure Minister Tim Baker had always insisted the measure was temporary.

Governor's Dip is also to return to its original layout.

Among the other changes, traffic will no longer only be able to travel northbound along Douglas promenade, with the one-way system in place ending on Tuesday; with the Summerhill junction re-opening.

However, the DOI has confirmed that the re-opening of Broadway has been pushed back by seven weeks, with the route now not expected to be accessible by traffic again until the end of October.
