Island's Met Office issues amber weather warning

Wed, 22 Nov 2017

An amber weather warning is in place on the Isle of Man throughout today and tomorrow.

The Met Office at Ronaldsway is warning of heavy rain, coastal overtopping and gales from 10am today until 3pm tomorrow.

Forecasters warn the rain will lead to localised flooding, with up to 50mm falling over the hills.

Waves are expected to bring debris onto exposed roads and promenades at high tides, with Castletown and the northern end of Douglas prom expected to be worst affected.

Gale force winds reaching 55 mph are due to hit the Island this morning, while gusts reaching up to 60mph are forecast overnight.

Police are urging those who will be traveling around the Island during the warning period to allow extra time and expect hazards such as standing water and fallen branches.
