Steam Packet expected support from Infrastructure Minister

Mon, 17 Jul 2017

The Steam Packet Company admits it was surprised and disappointed to learn the Infrastructure Minister doesn't support its future plans.

Ray Harmer will ask Tynwald to reject an offer from the ferry operator to extend its current user agreement.

In a letter to the Minister, the Steam Packet's Chairman insists he believed Mr Harmer would be recommending Tynwald approve to proposals, and learning that isn't the case just days before the sitting is regrettable.

The Company claims its position has been misrepresented, and that it could be forced to withdraw its offer if Tynwald doesn't approve.

The Steam Packet also says it doesn't believe another operator could provide the same service.

Mr Harmer wants Tynwald to note the offer, but continue to negotiate for a better deal.
