An MHK is criticising the Chief Minister election process following Tuesday's vote.

Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas was the proposer of Alf Cannan's bid for the role, but saw Howard Quayle elected instead.

The Middle MHK received 12 votes from the House of Keys and unanimous support from the Legislative Council after Mr Cannan picked up nine Keys votes.

Mr Thomas believes the Chief Minister should need support from more than half of the 24 MHKs, while questioning the need for LegCo to have a say.

Mr Cannan attempted to introduce a bill which would have stopped MLC's taking part in the Chief Minister election earlier this year, but the move stalled in LegCo after receiving support in the Keys.
