50 year old racer killed in Senior Manx Grand Prix race

The Manx Motor Cycle Club has confirmed the death of racer Gary Firth in today's Senior Manx Grand Prix race.

The incident occured at the 11th Milestone on the Mountain Course at around 1.45pm, the race was immediately red flagged.

The 50 year old Barnsley man had been experiencing the Mountain Course for the first time this week. He finished 34th in the Newcomers A Race and had a fastest lap time of 102.282mph earlier in today's race.

The Coroner of Inquests has been informed and an investigation into the circumstances of the accident is underway.

The two other racers involved in the collision were described as ok, and taken back to the grandstand by course car.

Alun Thomas was involved in an incident at Alpine Cottage, he was taken to Nobles Hospital by airmed where he is reported to have multiple fractures but is in a stable condition.
